Rosewood–framed Armchair

This Victorian armchair came to us with its original hide-buttoned back in good condition, but the arms and seat had been damaged over time and needed major repairs.

We carried out our restoration using Victorian methods to match the remaining original upholstery.

To reinstate the shape of the seat, we replaced the springs and webbing. We then re-scrimmed the original horsehair fillings, before covering it in a natural russet hide, hand-stained with oil and water to recreate the colour and patina of the original.

Next, we re-covered the arms using leather reclaimed from the original seat, replaced the piping and re-finished new brass nails by hand to achieve an antiqued effect that matched the originals still in place.
